WHY STAY AT HOME? THE IMPORTANCE OF QUARANTINE TO OVERCOME THE COVID-19

The pandemic of the new coronavirus, which causes Covid-19, has placed the world in social isolation. And in São Paulo, the quarantine was extended to May 10.

However, achieve social isolation is not a simple reality for everyone. Living in small houses, with many people, and the need to go out to work are challenges to be faced. However, this is a time when we must strive to comply with the possible measures.

The person who has mild symptoms or close contact with someone infected, needs to stay home. The hospital is restricted to the most serious cases.

The quarantine initially lasts for at least 14 days (or until the symptoms disappear). However, if the cough, shortness of breath and other breathing problems remain, that time is extended.

Who lives with a person who is suspected or diagnosed with the coronavirus, should follow the same recommendations. But, the doctor can extend the quarantine for another two weeks after the symptoms end, to make sure the virus cannot be transmitted.

Those who have no symptoms should remain in social isolation, avoiding crowds and staying at home, even if they are not infected, according to WHO (World Health Organization). Here are a few reasons:

1. The coronavirus spreads very quickly.

In a few days, a person with Covid-19 can transmit the virus to someone, even if they do not have any symptoms.

2. Coronavirus has no cure yet.

The possible drugs are still being studied and there is no way to guarantee their effectiveness, for now.

3. Anyone can get the disease.

Although there are identified risk groups, such as the elderly, many people outside them have symptoms of the coronavirus.

4. We don’t have enough hospital beds.

People who have contracted the coronavirus and are in a serious condition should be hospitalized for more than ten days. With a lot of people getting sick at the same time, our health system collapses and has difficulties taking care of all the patients properly. We cannot fill the hospitals.
If you need to leave, take all necessary precautions. Wash your hands, wear a mask and stay two meters away from people.
