The Joy of the Mat

Yesterday (5/11/2019) we were surprised by a great group of people.

In this second semester of 2019 we’ve suffered some low numbers and we had a very reduced number of young people attending regularly. At the same time, the classes continued at full steam. Every time of training, every moment for reflection and conversation, as well as the distinct development of the students, makes us persevere without losing heart.

We started to encourage the students to share the project by word of mouth, so they would invite friends to the classes. And what a result! Yesterday’s training had 12 participants, even though we had 3 absences.

The atmosphere was good, with the most experienced welcoming and supporting the novices, who brought a lot of enthusiasm and effort to the mat.

We continue to have a fruity snack after training, and once a week we have an English class afterwards.

Apart from this, our moments for reflection are still going strong; last month we spoke about “Decent Men and Women”, reflecting on ethical qualities and characteristics which are the basis for a more just and humane society.

Now we’re hoping that this level of attendance will maintain itself, and that our students will grow in skill and as people.

As we say in jiu-jitsu, as an affirmative response to a question: OSS!
