Since December 2017, Compassiva has had the privilege of benefitting from the pro bono work of ABE Lawyers.

In 2017, a couple from an area of conflict in the Middle East sought residence in Brazil. With the wife pregnant, they ran the risk of their child being born stateless. ABE Lawyers were in touch with the couple and, due to other needs, their relationship with Compassiva began.

“We heard about Compassiva’s work and noticed the seriousness and passion of the team for the refugee’s cause”, says Fernanda Garcez, a lawyer who has worked in the office since its foundation and is currently responsible for the labour law section. “We understand advocacy as serving as an agent of transformation and social development”, she adds.

The couple found a home in Brazil and their son was born with the right to a nationality that could have been robbed from him. And through this relationship between the couple, Compassiva and ABE lawyers, everyone wins.

Today, we have the support of ABE Lawyers for legal questions relating to societal, labour, tributary and civil law. It is gratifying to know that we’ve gained a partner that will not only help us with every aspect of Brazilian legislation, but will also be a great ally in advocacy, whereby together we can serve our neighbor by contributing to a more just and egalitarian society.
